Lots of frost but no snow

Apart from a sprinkling of snow one morning this week we have escaped the snow causing havoc further north. Of course the children are disappointed but anyone with livestock heaves a sigh of relief as snow makes for hard work. It's been plenty cold enough even without snow, the frost has been staying on the ground all day some days. Lots of wind and rain too. I should think the springs will run in the village soon if we have much more rain.

Cameron and the children spent a day sawing up a fallen tree on the farm for firewood recently and then pruning a huge fig tree by our house that was severely overgrown. It banged on the roof alarmingly in high winds, of which we get plenty - I shall sleep easier at nights now as I was worried it would break the tiles on our bedroom roof. We may not get so many figs next year, that will be more of a problem for the birds and hedgehogs which love ripe figs None of the family is very keen on figs which is a shame really.

Little Cat diary
Great Expectations
Our kittens have reached seven months old and have all now had their operations. We were a bit worried about Badger as she is so small but she recovered very well although resented her bonnet and being confined indoors for 10 days Our mother cat, Maggie has decided not to wait till the spring to have another litter of kittens and we expect their arrival sometime before Christmas. Just so long as she has them inside hopefully all will be well even if not ideal. After these kittens I think we will have enough cats so it will be Maggies turn for her op.

Website Shop Update
At last I have found time to expand the range of meats we sell through the website, and I have also included a few sauces and condiments which will compliment your meat orders. Please take a look, and as always if something is missing that you would like to see please let me know. I can usually update the website with a few items quite quickly. The range we sell is a tiny fraction of what is sold at the shop in Devizes as we have to strike a balance between the range we offer and the speed and complexity of the website. I personally dislike slow or over-complicated websites.

All the butchers are certainly working flat out at the moment with the extra demands of Christmas orders. The meat and deli counters are a real work of art and take hours to set out every day. Walter Rose was recently nominated for the award of Best British Butcher - they made it to the last three so many congratulations to Steve, Andy and team.
